Patna: Three people were injured in celebratory firing during a wedding ceremony at Parsauni Jahangir village (ward no. 21) under Sahibganj police station area in Muzaffarpur district late on Monday night, police said.Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify the youth who allegedly opened fire.According to police, a wedding procession had arrived at the residence of one Mukesh Pathak in the village. During the traditional ‘dwar puja’ ceremony, a group of youths began dancing. Amid the celebrations, one of them allegedly started firing from an illegal firearm.Eyewitnesses claimed the accused was under the influence of alcohol. The bullets hit three people present at the venue, causing chaos as guests rushed to safety.Tent operator Anil Paswan (35) sustained a serious gunshot injury on his left knee. He was initially taken to the Community Health Centre, where he received first aid before being referred to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur for advanced treatment. Another injured person was shifted to Motihari for treatment, while the third is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur.After receiving information about the incident, additional SHO Ashok Ram reached the spot with a police team. Confirming that three people were injured in the firing, he said that by the time police arrived, the spent cartridge casings had been removed.He added, “Police are questioning local residents and eyewitnesses to identify the person responsible for the firing. A case is being registered, and further legal action is underway.”SDPO, Saraiya, Abhijeet Kaur, said police received information about the firing around midnight. “During verification, it was found that the wedding procession had come from an area under Mushahri police station, and the firing was allegedly done by a member of the wedding party,” she said.The SDPO added that while reports of other injured persons have surfaced, police are still verifying those claims.
