Ahmedabad: A 23-year-old woman was electrocuted to death after a live electricity wire snapped and fell on her in Halisa village of Dehgam taluka on Monday evening. The tragic event occurred during heavy rain and strong winds, which caused a tree to uproot and crash onto a nearby utility pole, bringing down the live overhead cables.Bhavana Makwana was on her way to a flour mill around 5.30pm when the tragedy occurred, police said. She is survived by her husband, a 6-year-old daughter, and a 3-year-old son.

People nearby rushed to help but could not approach her as the power line was still live. Residents informed the power distribution company, following which the electricity supply was disconnected. She was then taken to the govt hospital at Chhala and later referred to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Dehgam police registered a case of accidental death. Police are examining whether there was any negligence in the maintenance of the electricity infrastructure or the tree that fell on the pole.The victim’s family alleged that complaints were previously made about the tree behind the bank, claiming it posed a risk during the monsoon. They demanded action against those found responsible and compensation for the family.

Villagers also sought an inspection of power lines, poles and trees located near electricity infrastructure to prevent similar incidents during the rainy season.A CCTV recording of the incident has surfaced, showing Makwana walking along the road moments before the wire fell on her. The footage also captures sparks after the live wire came in contact with her.
