Rourkela: A 23-year-old man was arrested in Sundargarh district on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his stepfather to death a day earlier. The incident took place at Barasuan Mandir Basti under Lahunipada police station limits. Asadhu Dehury (60) lived with his wife Sunari, stepson Ramesh Naik (23) — from Sunari’s previous marriage — and two daughters.Police said an argument broke out around 7 am on Tuesday when Ramesh, preparing to leave for work, found that food was not cooked. He allegedly confronted his stepfather over the issue, leading to a heated exchange. During the altercation, Ramesh allegedly picked up a knife and slit Asadhu’s throat. The victim died on the spot. The accused fled after the attack.Police, along with a scientific team, reached the scene and began an investigation. The murder weapon was seized as well. Based on Sunari’s complaint, police registered a case and launched a manhunt. Ramesh was apprehended on Wednesday and later arrested. “We have arrested the accused for killing his stepfather. Further investigation is underway,” said Lahunipada police IIC Rameswar Singh. The post-mortem was conducted the same day and the body was handed over to the family.
