Mandya: A youth was allegedly assaulted by toll plaza staff at the Gananguru toll plaza on the Bengaluru–Mysuru national highway, triggering outrage among motorists and the public.According to reports, the youth, identified as Mahesh, was beaten by toll employees after his vehicle’s FASTag account was found to have insufficient balance. The incident occurred two days ago when Mahesh arrived at the toll plaza in a car with his friends.When the car reached the booth, the toll staff informed him that the FASTag had no balance. Mahesh reportedly requested permission to reverse the vehicle to contact an acquaintance to arrange payment or resolve the issue.The situation, however, escalated after toll employees allegedly abused him using foul language. A few staff members then allegedly assaulted Mahesh and chased him when he tried to move away from the spot. During the altercation, his mobile phone was also allegedly snatched.Bystanders recorded the incident on a mobile phone, and the video later went viral on social media. The footage sparked widespread anger, with many demanding strict action against those involved and better regulation of toll plaza operations.
