Kanpur: The body of a 29-year-old woman was found hanging under suspicious circumstances in Guru Ka Purwa village under Bidhnu police station limits on Monday.However, the woman’s father alleged that she was murdered over dowry and later hanged to make the death appear to be a case of suicide.Family members of the deceased also alleged that her children told them their father had assaulted their mother before they left for school on Monday morning. When relatives reached the house later, they found the woman’s clothes torn, raising further suspicion.The woman’s father also claimed that his son-in-law had repeatedly assaulted his daughter over a demand for Rs 10 lakh in dowry.According to him, in 2020, the accused had severely assaulted his daughter and allegedly thrown her into a canal, following which she came to live with her parental family. However, after a compromise between the two families, she returned to her matrimonial home.Police recovered a torn three-page suicide note from the spot in which the woman allegedly described the difficulties she faced during her nine-year marriage.In the note, she allegedly accused her husband and in-laws of continuously harassing her over dowry. She further claimed that her husband frequently consumed alcohol and assaulted her, while other family members also subjected her to harassment and intimidation.Police said that the case is being investigated from all angles and further legal proceedings are underway.
