Namakkal: A woman was found dead at her home in Kumarapalayam, in Namakkal district on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as U Lakshmi, 35, of Dhammannan Road, in Kumarapalayam. She worked as a coolie and was living with Umapathy, 42, for the last five years after separating from her husband. The couple had reportedly got into a dispute after they consumed alcohol on Saturday night. Her death came to light when concerned neighbors peered through a gap in the door after Lakshmi did not come out of her house. They noticed her lifeless body on the bed and alerted Kumarapalayam police. Police retrieved Lakshmi’s body and shifted it to the Kumarapalayam Government Hospital for a postmortem. Meanwhile, police have detained Umapathy and are interrogating him as a suspect. “We are continuing to interrogate Umapathy, and we cannot reach any conclusion until we get the postmortem report,” said a police officer. Kumarapalayam police have registered a case.
