Salem/Dharmapuri: Mettur dam on Sunday, reached its maximum capacity of 120ft for the third time since June 29.A water resources department official (WRD) said persistent heavy rainfall in the Cauvery catchment areas has led to dams in Karnataka reaching their full capacity. Consequently, excess water is being released from the Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dams into Tamil Nadu. “This water has begun to increase the flow in the Cauvery River at Hogenakkal,” the official added. Water flow, which rose to 32,000 cubic feet per second by Sunday morning, quickly escalated to 43,000 cubic feet per second.Meanwhile, the Dharmapuri district administration banned bathing and coracle riding in Hogenakkal following an inflow of 43,000 cusecs of water in Cauvery River on Sunday.
