Coimbatore: A bus driver of a private college was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by the judicial magistrate court-IV in the city on Friday for sharing a woman’s mobile number on social media.According to the Coimbatore city cybercrime police, M Shankara Moorthy, 37, of Punnai Sathankurichi in Thoothukudi district, worked as a private college bus driver in Coimbatore.On November 29, 2017, he was riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle and hit another motorcycle belonging to a woman near Chinniyampalayam. The scooter of the victim, a resident of Somanur, was damaged in the accident.He agreed to bear the expenses for repairing the scooter and obtained her mobile number.Later, the woman received more than 30 phone calls from various mobile numbers. She lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police, who registered a case in 2018.According to police, Shankara Moorthy had posted the woman’s mobile number on his Facebook page named ‘Sathya Kutty’. They registered a case and arrested him. He was later remanded in judicial custody.Judicial magistrate court-IV magistrate Arunkumar on Friday awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment to Shankara Moorthy for harassing the woman and misusing technology. The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently and imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 on Shankara Moorthy.
