Dibrugarh: A woman was injured in crossfire between Assam Rifles and suspected insurgents in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district on Friday night.Security officials said the gunfight broke out around 9.15 pm near the Tengapani Reserve Forest-Lal Pahar Road stretch in the district, along the Assam border. Assam Rifles said troops launched a search operation after receiving intelligence inputs about suspicious movement in the forested area.After the exchange of fire, security personnel launched a follow-up operation and detained two suspects. They were later handed over to Namsai police for further investigation, the force said.The injured woman was identified as 30-year-old Koilani Namchoom, daughter of Chow Nalaching Namchoom, and a resident of Momong village under Namsai police station. She suffered a bullet injury in her left knee and was provided first aid before being shifted to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital in Assam for specialised treatment.Security agencies have not yet identified the insurgent outfit involved in the firefight. A joint operation by the police and paramilitary forces is now under way to trace the group.The incident adds to a string of security flashpoints along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in recent months, a region long troubled by the activities of outfits such as Ulfa-I and Naga insurgent factions.
