Aizawl: Aizawl: Mizoram BJP has criticised the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) over its planned statewide ‘black day’ protest on Monday against the proposed amendment to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).BJP state general secretary Delson Notlia, while addressing the party workers at Atal Bhavan, state BJP office in Aizawl, on Friday, said MPCC’s proposed ‘black day’ protest was shameful and contrasted it with BJP’s ‘black day’ observance to commemorate the declaration of Emergency by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.Notlia accused Congress of trying to play with the sentiments of the churches and the civil societies by opposing the proposed amendment to the FCRA. He alleged Congress has been using the FCRA for political advantage. “The FCRA was legislated in 1976 when Congress was in power and the same govt repealed it in 2010,” he said.He said the BJP govt at the Centre, after conducting a detailed study, decided to amend the act as it has been found to be abused by various organisations, including the use of foreign contributions to help terror groups. “Foreign contributions to 22,498 non-governmental organisations have so far been cancelled due to misuse of the contributions by NGOs of Hindus, Muslims and Christians,” he said.Notlia said 14,455 active NGOs are currently receiving foreign contributions under the FCRA and there was nothing to fear if they followed the rules laid down under the act.
