Times News NetworkKanpur: A 41-year-old widow’s determination to seek justice and assistancefrom the district administration bore fruit after she walked nearly 18kilometres to personally meet District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh. The incident took place after conclusion of the Tehsil Diwas programmewhen the District Magistrate was about to leave the venue. A distressed middle-aged woman approached him and narrated her plight. The woman, identified as Rinki Mishra, aresident of Bir Singhpur village in Ghatampur tehsil, said she had noration card of her own and was unable to get the Antyodaya ration card,originally issued in the name of her late mother-in-law, transferred to herdespite repeated efforts.Moved by seriousness of her situation, DistrictMagistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh immediately directed GhatampurSub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Abichal Pratap Singh to visit the woman’svillage the same day, conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report aftertaking necessary action.Following the instructions, the SDM and other officials reached Rinki’sresidence. The inquiry revealed the family’s extremely poorliving conditions. Considering the family’s immediate needs, the SDM provided emergencyrelief, including food grains, essential kitchen items, vegetables, fruits,and other household necessities. The administration sanctioned immediate financial assistance of ₹5,000 to help the family meeturgent expenses.After receiving the field report, the District Magistrate issued a seriesof directions to ensure long-term rehabilitation of the family.
