Times News NetworkKanpur: A paddy crop cafeteria was set up in the fields of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dalip Nagar, operated under Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, to demonstrate different varieties of the paddy crop.Scientist at the centre, Dr Khalil Khan, said, “Through this, farmers of the district will get the latest technical information related to the paddy crop.”Khan said that after testing these varieties of paddy, those varieties that gave better results according to the district’s climate would be promoted and disseminated among more farmers, so that they can be benefited more. He said that a crop cafeteria of 15 varieties of hybrid, usar-tolerant and normal paddy was set up.Farmers themselves would be able to assess superior paddy varieties by seeing the crop cafeteria and would also be able to select varieties suitable for the area, which would benefit them, he said.Farmers could compare different varieties at one place by looking at their height, panicle length and shine. It also became easy to find out which variety was quickly affected by pests or diseases, such as blast and stem borer, and which was resistant. Through the paddy crop cafeteria, farmers could know which variety matured in how many days and how much yield it gave per acre.
