Kolkata: A total of 6.5 lakh adjudication cases has been disposed of by the judicial officers till date out of the total 61 lakh which had been sent for adjudication following a Supreme Court order, a senior EC official told ET.

However, out of the 6.5 lakh, the number of cases rejected is not known. Meanwhile, around 200 newly-appointed judicial officers from Odisha and Jharkhand will be looking into adjudication of eight districts — North and South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah, Birbhum, East and West Burdwan and Nadia.

At a top-level meeting of Election Commission of India officials on Thursday directed the enforcement agencies, including Enforcement directorate, SGST, income-tax department among others, to gear up for assembly polls and ensure naka checking, daily search and seizures and submit reports at regular intervals to the ECI, people in the know said.

ECI Bench to reach Bengal

A13-member full bench of the ECI, led by CEC Gyanesh Kumar, will be visiting Kolkata from March 8-10 to review the poll preparedness. On March 9, an all-party meeting will be held for two hours from 10 am.

A series of meetings will be held with officials of various enforcement agencies, IG, DIG, Police Commissioner, district magistrates and Superintendents of Police. On March 10, there will be more meetings with the West Bengal-Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal, State Police Nodal Officer, and CAPF Nodal Officers in the morning. The bench will also hold meetings with the chief secretary, DGP and other administrative officials. Discussions will also be held with BLOs.
The bench has already visited Tamil Nadu and Assam.
