NEW DELHI: The mother of Delhi techie Vinay Gupta, who was allegedly killed following a domestic dispute, claimed she offered water to his relatives moments before they allegedly attacked her son at their home.Renu Gupta alleged that the relatives, who had arrived at their house along with her daughter-in-law, immediately confronted Vinay instead of accepting the water.Speaking to ANI, she said, “There was some minor ongoing dispute that I wasn’t even aware of… My husband came in and said that the relatives have arrived. I tried to offer them water, but they said, ‘We don’t want your water.’”According to Renu, the situation escalated soon after, with two brothers of her daughter-in-law allegedly attacking Vinay.She claimed one of the men grabbed her son by the hair while another allegedly strangled him and slammed him to the ground.Renu further alleged that she tried to intervene but was pushed aside. She claimed a neighbour witnessed the attack and saw the two men allegedly stomping on Vinay’s chest.“I grabbed a stick to defend him, but it was snatched away by an uncle who had come with them,” she alleged.She also claimed that the family’s security cameras were switched off at the time of the incident, and questioned whether the attack had been planned.Renu alleged that her daughter-in-law stood by as the attack took place and did not intervene to stop her brothers.The incident had reportedly followed a dispute between Vinay and his wife over household responsibilities, who would apply medicine to blisters on their child.Police have arrested three people in connection with the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.Further investigation is underway.
