Vadodara: In a bid to improve the city’s sanitation standards, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has launched a ‘One Day, One Road’ drive, under which one major road will be cleaned and spruced up every day.The move comes amid criticism over the city’s cleanliness levels and its performance in the Swachh Survekshan rankings. With sanitation emerging as a priority this year, the civic body has intensified its efforts to enhance on-ground conditions.VMC commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu said that under the drive, roads, dividers and pavements will be thoroughly cleaned. Plantation on dividers will be trimmed and damaged paver blocks on footpaths will be removed. The civic body will also clear encroachments along the selected stretches during the campaign. So far, 13 roads have been covered under the initiative. The commissioner said the current campaign will be followed by a more extensive ‘100 Days, 100 Roads’ drive. VMC also plans to involve citizens in cleanliness initiatives and seek support from NGOs for cleaning ponds across the city.
