Salem: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president on Sunday backed independent candidate K Premkumar for the Edappadi assembly constituency after his party’s nominee for the constituency, Arun Kumar, was rejected due to some discrepancies in his nomination. The endorsement is seen as a significant move as AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami is also contesting from the constituency.Premkumar, a former office-bearer of the Vijay Fans Club, is contesting under the “Television” symbol. Vijay announced that his party would extend full support to Premkumar, describing him as TVK’s candidate “in spirit” and urging voters to rally behind him. The move ensures TVK’s presence in the constituency despite procedural setbacks. Premkumar’s candidacy is expected to split votes and complicate the AIADMK’s hold on the constituency.
