Coimbatore: All India Congress Committee general secretary (organization) K C Venugopal on Sunday said BJP and NDA were trying to make the people of Tamil Nadu their slaves.Campaigning for Singanallur Congress candidate V Srinithi, Venugopal attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, who he said were trying to destabilize the Tamil Nadu govt. “Modi and Shah want a remote control govt in Tamil Nadu. They have been disturbing the state govt for the past five years in their bid to destabilize the govt. In the name of women reservation, BJP also tried to reduce TN’s representation in parliament.” He accused Modi of dividing the people of India and said, “Modi is against the language and people of Tamil Nadu. They tried to weaken the state using the governor for five years. Like Rahul Gandhi, who is constantly fighting against BJP at the Centre, TN chief minister M K Stalin is also fighting BJP daily.” Addressing the media before Venugopal’s arrival, Srinithi said the opposition was spreading false information about intra-party conflicts in Congress out of fear of defeat. “It is not necessary that only Congress leaders should campaign for me. Many DMK leaders have campaigned for me. Likewise, Congress leaders have campaigned for DMK candidates.” According to the Congress candidate, the campaign schedule of senior leaders was prepared by a committee and it no way reflects any kind of intra-party conflicts. “When senior leader Chidambaram came to Coimbatore, I did reach out to him over phone. He was one of the jury members of candidate scrutiny. His support was there for me right from the beginning.”
