Dumka: Vice-president CP Radhakrishnan on Saturday urged young doctors to uphold their professional and social responsibilities with honesty, dedication, and compassion.Addressing the second convocation ceremony of AIIMS Deoghar, Radhakrishnan said, “Doctors remain the greatest source of hope for people at critical moments when lives depend on timely medical intervention. Earning a medical degree is only the beginning of a lifelong commitment to service.”Asserting that medical knowledge and technical expertise must be complemented by sensitivity towards patients and their families, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar said, “Medical care is not limited to diagnosing and treating diseases. It also requires compassion, integrity and a deep understanding of human values.”Welcoming the increasing participation of women in medical education, the VP highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare.Stating that “healthcare would play a pivotal role in Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047”, he said institutions such as AIIMS are helping to extend quality healthcare to smaller towns and rural areas. “The establishment of 12 new AIIMS campuses, including Deoghar, has reduced the need for patients to travel long distances for advanced treatment.”Highlighting the growth of medical education, he said, “The number of medical colleges in the country increased from 380 to 846, MBBS seats rose from 51,000 to 1.39 lakh, and post-graduate medical seats went up from 31,000 to 86,000.”Degrees were conferred on students of MBBS, BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing, MD and MS programmes. Eleven students were also honoured for outstanding academic performance and dedication.Remembering tribal freedom fighters Birsa Munda, Sidho-Kanho and Tilka Manjhi, he said their sacrifices continued to inspire generations.
