Dumka: A Bangladeshi national, who allegedly had been living in the country illegally, was arrested for bringing the Brahmaputra Mail to an abrupt halt by pulling the emergency chain in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand late on Friday.The accused Suman Mian (26) was arrested by Railway Protection Force and govt Railway Police and was remanded to judicial custody on Saturday.Suman reportedly told the investigators that he was travelling to Guwahati in Assam to return to his country with four others, who managed to flee. The group had fled Srinagar, where Suman had been working as a scrap dealer with 19 others, after local authorities initiated a crackdown on illegal immigrants, and boarded the train from New Delhi.Suman, travelling in a general compartment with his companions, pulled the chain after he was awakened by a jolt between Mirzachowki and Sahibganj railway stations. He was detained by RPF after the train came to an abrupt halt.A Bangladeshi identity card, two mobile phones and Pakistani and Nepalese currency notes were recovered from him. “Investigation is underway to ascertain how he entered India, the duration of his stay and the whereabouts of his associates,” a GRP officer said.NIA has reportedly taken cognisance of the case, sources said.
