Mandya: Karnataka Upa Lokayukta has registered a suo motu case against 10 govt employees, including senior officials of MIMS Hospital and Mandya District Prison, over alleged unauthorised medical treatment and special privileges extended to inmates.The case names MIMS medical superintendent Dr Shivakumar G., medical officer Dr Amardeep, former District Jail superintendent M Shantamma, former warder Shivaraju, District Jail superintendent Karna Bhimanna Kshatriya, medical officer of Kyatungere primary health centre and four District Armed Reserve (DAR) constables — Rajagopal, Chandankumar, Chand and Nagaraj Chalavadi.Upa Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa has directed all the officials to appear for a hearing on Oct 28 along with relevant documents and records.The action follows an investigation into an alleged fake document racket in Srirangapatna. In June, Lokayukta police arrested eight employees and a private individual linked to assistant director of land records (ADLR) office. The alleged prime accused, ADLR Mohammad Hussain, remained absconding for nearly two months before being arrested in Raichur on Aug 6 and remanded in judicial custody.While lodged in Mandya District Prison, Hussain was allegedly admitted as an in-patient at MIMS Hospital without obtaining permission from the trial court. He reportedly cited back pain as the reason for seeking treatment. During an inspection on Aug 24, a district sessions judge allegedly found him in a private room with a female friend, leading to questions over the circumstances surrounding his hospital admission and security arrangements.Following the incident, district superintendent of police VG Shobharani suspended DAR constable Chandan on charges of dereliction of duty in connection with the security lapse.Meanwhile, an open letter reportedly submitted by undertrials alleged corruption and special privileges inside the prison in return for bribes. Subsequently, district jail superintendent M Shantamma was transferred to Bellary Central Prison on Aug 31.Upa Lokayukta registers 14 suo motu cases against Maddur taluk officialsKarnataka Upa Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa has registered 14 suo motu cases against officials of various departments in Maddur taluk following his inspection in the taluk on Aug 27 and 28, 2026.The cases were registered after Upa Lokayukta reviewed the functioning of govt offices and examined issues brought to his notice during the visit. The action has raised concerns over alleged lapses in the functioning of certain taluk-level departments and the delivery of public services.Justice Veerappa inspected govt offices and interacted with officials and members of the public during the two-day visit.The suo motu cases relate to issues that came to light during the inspections and are expected to be examined in detail as part of the proceedings. Upa Lokayukta has directed the officials concerned to respond to the issues raised, with further action to be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
