NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Gurgaon for allegedly raping a woman over several months after befriending her on a matrimonial website on the pretext of marriage, officials said on Wednesday. The accused identified as Nadeem Khan from Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody on Tuesday after an investigation. He works as a rental broker in Gurgaon and was also wanted in a similar case, with a reward of Rs 5,000 announced for his arrest.According to police, the woman came into contact with Khan through a matrimonial platform. In her complaint filed at Kherki Daula police station on December 5 last year, she alleged that Khan invited her to his flat in Sector 86. Police said the accused established physical relations with the woman multiple times on the promise of marriage. He later refused to marry her and cut off all communication. “During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to contacting women through matrimonial sites and sexually exploiting them on the pretext of marriage,” police said. The police have seized the mobile phone allegedly used in the crime. Khan was produced before a court, which remanded him to two days in police custody for further questioning.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
