Times News NetworkKanpur: A 20-year-old unmarried woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy at a community health centre in Baberu Kotwali area on Tuesday, but her family refused to accept the newborn, officials said.Child Helpline took the infant into protective custody and transferred the child to the district hospital for better medical care. Both the mother and child are in good health, additional superintendent of police (ASP) Shivraj said.The woman, from a village in Baberu Kotwali region, was brought to the health centre by her family for delivery. Community health centre superintendent Rishikesh Singh Patel said she delivered the baby around 9 am.After the family refused to accept the newborn, the hospital authorities informed the police. Kotwali police station in-charge Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi reached the centre with female officers. Shivraj and Circle Officer Krishnakant Tripathi later visited the hospital.The ASP said, “Child welfare committee has been informed, while police and the child protection department are taking further action under established regulations. The baby weighs 2.5 kg and is in good health. The baby has been referred to the district hospital for further treatment.”
