Kanpur: A truck driver was killed after his speeding vehicle rammed into a stationary container on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway near the RTO office in Unnao early Monday, triggering traffic congestion and a lengthy rescue operation.The deceased, Deepak (35) from Barabanki, was travelling from Kanpur towards Lucknow when his truck hit the container from behind. The impact severely damaged the front of the vehicle and trapped him inside the cabin.Local residents and police personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Sadar Kotwali police, the hospital outpost in-charge and the Lalaukheda outpost in-charge reached the site. Due to the extensively damaged cabin, Deepak remained trapped for around 1.5 hours before rescuers used a Hydra to pull apart the vehicle and extricate him.He was rushed to the district hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.The accident led to a long queue of vehicles on the highway, with heavy morning traffic causing a jam-like situation. Police later removed the damaged truck and container and restored traffic movement.Deepak’s fellow driver, Munesh Kumar, said they were travelling from Kanpur to Gorakhpur after leaving around 11.30 pm-12 am following dinner. He alleged that a dumper was parked in the middle of the road near the RTO office at Dahi Chowki without any indicator. During the journey, the driver dozed off and the truck crashed into the stationary dumper.Police sent the body for postmortem, informed the family and started investigating the cause of the accident.
