T’puram: The city airport saw an increase in transit passengers from domestic to international after domestic connections improved.An official said that there were more than 100 transit passengers per day, and the airport got its own electric bus to operate shuttle services between the domestic and international terminals. Now, a KSRTC bus is used to ferry passengers. There were passengers from Delhi and Bengaluru landing at the airport and switching flights to Maldives, while there were passengers from Bengaluru and Trichy transiting to Middle East. The new shuttle bus was introduced recently, and a canopy area was also opened in Terminal 1 area. The canopy will be extended to other parts of the terminal for passengers to board the buses. The airport is also seeing an increase in passenger movement. International passengers are slightly more than domestic passengers, as the airlines recently added more frequency and new routes in the international sector. In Jan, the airport handled 4.50 lakh passengers, which is a new record for monthly passengers. This is a revival from Dec, when flight traffic was impacted by sudden large-scale cancellations of IndiGo flights.The airport also completed Phase I of facelift of the domestic terminal. This offers a more modern, comfortable and seamless journey.
