Chennai: In the wake of TVK’s nomination getting rejected in Edappadi assembly segment after the candidate went missing, the fledgling party has decided to keep a close watch on its candidates ahead of the scrutiny of nominations on Thursday. In Edappadiconstituency, the TVK candidate, M Arun Kumar, submitted incomplete nomination papers and had failed to appear for scrutiny. The substitute candidate, A Nithya, also had her papers rejected as they carried only seven proposers instead of the required 10, leaving the party without a nominee in the constituency.Amidst speculations that the ‘rejection was engineered’ by deliberately filing incomplete affidavits, TVK seniors have instructed their rank and file to keep a close watch on other candidates to prevent them from getting influenced by rivals. TVK sources said they got information that DMK functionaries were in touch with two TVK candidates in Trichy and one in Chennai, while AIADMK leaders had approached a candidate in Pudukottai. District secretaries were asked to reach out to those candidates fearing that they might withdrew the nominations on Thursday, the last day for the exercise. However, only 100-odd dummy candidates withdrew nominations while the actual candidates remained in the fray.Last week, TVK had to replace their candidates in Uthangarai and Hosur after similar confusions.
