Jaipur: A 63-year-old woman was grievously injured after a van ran over her and dragged her about 15 feet outside her home in Chaudhary Colony in Kartarpura Wednesday afternoon. The driver fled from the secne but was later arrested.The victim, identified as Kalawati Gurjar, died under treatment in hospital later. DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said that the driver Mahendra Kumar was arrested late on Thursday night.The accident occurred around 1 pm when she stepped out of her house and was sitting near her home. She had asthma and came outside due to breathing difficulty, police said.According to police, a van parked in the lane suddenly moved towards her, hit her, dragged her along the road and then ran over her.Construction work was underway at a neighbouring house and cement was lying outside, police said. Two people standing nearby and speaking with Kalawati stepped back in time and narrowly escaped.Residents rushed out after hearing the commotion and took her to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her dead during treatment.Her body was shifted to Jaipuria Hospital for postmortem. On Thursday, police handed over the body to the family after the autopsy.Family members said Kalawati’s husband, Hanuman Sahay, died due to illness about a month ago.
