Trainee IPS officer at Hyd police academy booked for sexual harassment

Hyderabad: A trainee IPS officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) has been booked for sexual harassment after a woman co-trainee accused him of assault and intimidation, over the past two months.Based on her complaint, the Attapur police registered a case under Sections 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment), 77 (voyeurism), 78 (stalking), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS, apart from provisions of the Information Technology Act, against the accused.According to the complainant, the accused had allegedly been sending her sexually abusive messages, falsely linking her to another male trainee — by accusing her of being in a relationship with him — and making offensive remarks.“Through intimidation and blackmail, he forced the complainant to open and show him her personal messages. In July, he further escalated the harassment by taking away her mobile phone to his room and forcing her to share its password,” police said, citing the complaint. The complainant further alleged that on July 9, the accused wrongfully restrained her, forcibly took her to his room, grabbed her by the hair, attempted to strangle her, held a knife to her neck and prevented her from leaving the room. “He then threw three packets of condoms at her,” the FIR stated. She also alleged that the accused groped her, allegedly recorded a video of her without her consent and sent it to her husband in an attempt to blackmail her. He also tried to tarnish her image by spreading false and degrading information, the complaint alleged.“We will take the accused into custody for examination. Investigation is underway,” a senior officer of Hyderabad police told TOI.
