Hyderabad: Deeptech startup Paninian India Private Ltd on Monday unveiled its Yantur 4.5 kN turbofan engine programme, describing it as India’s first private-sector turbofan development effort in its class and a step toward domestic capability in compact aerospace propulsion.The engine is being developed for Svayatt L1, Paninian’s long-range autonomous cruise missile platform, which the company says is aimed at meeting requirements under the defence ministry’s Make-I programme for the Long-Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM).Hyderabad-based Paninian said Yantur has completed conceptual and detailed design and is moving into subsystem testing, validation and full engine certification.The company said the same engine core could later be scaled to 12.5 kN to power its Svayatt CCAV platform, supporting a broader family of propulsion systems for future autonomous aerospace applications.Paninian said the Yantur and Svayatt L1 programmes include five patent claims covering engine family architecture, combustor and diffuser-nozzle design, compressor technology, digital-twin health monitoring and advanced manufacturing techniques.Dr G Gouda, former group director (propulsion) at the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), said the programme could help establish Indian capability in compact turbofan propulsion, engine controls, accessory systems, advanced manufacturing and propulsion-airframe integration. He said it complements earlier work by DRDO scientists in indigenous propulsion development.Paninian founder Raghu Adla said Yantur was a private-sector attempt to build sovereign propulsion capability for future strategic autonomous systems.He credited Paninian’s engineering team, advisers and partners and said the company is seeking support from govt, industry and investors to accelerate testing and validation.Paninian said its team includes specialists in propulsion engineering, autonomous systems, materials science, advanced manufacturing and digital engineering, with advisers including Gouda, controls and sensors expert Vaman Kulkarni, and materials specialist Vikas Kumar Saxena.The company is now opening a $3 million funding round to support testing, qualification and integration with Svayatt L1 platform.
