Hrusikesh MohantyBerhampur: A 42-year-old trainee assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was arrested in Ganjam district on Friday on charges of allegedly raping a 32-year-old married woman over the past three years on the pretext of marrying her. The accused, who was recently promoted from constable and is currently undergoing ASI training, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the woman at Chhatrapur police station.IIC, Chhatrapur police station, Sabyasachi Malla said the accused, who is married, allegedly maintained a physical relationship with the woman, also married, after assuring her of marriage. The relationship allegedly soured when he later refused to marry her. Angered by his refusal, the woman filed an FIR on Friday. Police arrested the accused the same day.According to police, the accused met the woman while staying as a tenant in her house in Chhatrapur when her husband was working outside the state. “After gathering prima facie evidence, we arrested the accused,” Malla said. Police said medical examinations of both the accused and the complainant have been conducted.
