Kalyan: A day after an HSC student from Dombivli died after allegedly falling off a packed local train while on his way to an exam centre, BJP corporator Dipesh Mhatre on Wednesday held a meeting with Kalyan-Dombivli municipal transport department (KDMT) officials and sought the launch of bus services between Dombivli and Thane. There are currently no such services on the stretch.Mhatre said bus services would help reduce the mounting pressure on suburban railway trains and offer citizens a reliable alternative mode of transport. He urged KDMT to conduct a joint inspection of the proposed route and finalise a commuter-friendly timetable at the earliest. Following the meeting, KDMT officials carried out a survey of the suggested alignment and reportedly found that buses could cover the distance from Mothagaon in Dombivli to Kapurbawadi in Thane in around 30 minutes under normal traffic conditions, indicating operational feasibility.Mhatre later said the completion of the Mothagaon-Mankoli flyover provides an opportunity to establish a faster and safer bus link. He said KDMT has around 7 gunthas of land reserved at Mothagaon, which could be utilised for bus parking. He expressed hopes that the bus services would be introduced by March.
