Dumka: Police suspect a beggar woman and her six-year-old daughter were murdered and left on the ground behind the office of circle police inspector near the bustling Veer Kunwar Singh Chowk on Wednesday.The bodies of the deceased, who are yet to be identified, were discovered from a secured area amid heightened security measures put in place for the Feb 23 civic body polls.The deceased woman’s clothes were torn, and blood stains were visible near the child’s nose. Officers from the Town police station, who cordoned off the area and began investigation, said the duo were either killed after being violated or were assaulted, while trying to protect themselves.Police said it looked like murder but said it was a suspicion at this stage.“It seems to be an act of murder. The matter of whether they were raped or not will be ascertained after the post-mortem report,” Dumka SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar said.Locals said the woman lived on the premises of the local weekly haat and roamed the town with her daughter, seeking alms.The SP added that attempts were underway to ascertain the identities of the deceased and nab the accused.The bodies were taken for post-mortem examination.
