Kanpur: A traffic police constable and a trailer driver were killed, while another constable sustained critical injuries after an uncontrolled trailer rammed into the policemen’s motorcycle before crashing into a truck on the Barra elevated bridge early Monday. The accident disrupted traffic on the flyover for several hours.According to police, traffic constables Jitendra and Rakesh, posted at the Naubasta Bypass, were heading to the Barra elevated bridge on a motorcycle after receiving information about a traffic jam.Near Priya Hospital, an uncontrolled trailer allegedly hit their motorcycle. While Jitendra, a native of Agra, died on the spot, Rakesh suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to Kanshiram Hospital, where his condition remains critical.After hitting the motorcycle, the trailer rammed into a truck moving ahead. The trailer driver also died in the collision.Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and sent the bodies of the traffic constable and the trailer driver for post-mortem examination.Additional Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Dr Vipin Tada and DCP (Traffic) Ravindra Kumar visited the accident site, inspected the scene and gathered information to ascertain the cause of the crash.The accident led to a major traffic disruption on the elevated bridge. Police worked for several hours to clear the damaged vehicles and restore the flow of traffic.
