Kanpur: Kanpur Nagar distrct magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Tuesday demoted three junior clerks to the post of peon after they failed to type 25 words per minute in mandatory tests, officials said.The three employees Premnath Yadav, Amit Kumar Yadav and Neha Shrivastava joined service two years ago under the deceased dependent quota. As per rules, it is mandatory to pass the typing test within one year of joining.The administration conducted the typing test twice over two years for all three, but they failed both the times. According to the administration, the first test was conducted in 2024, when they failed to type even 25 words per minute. They were given a chance to improve and the test was reconducted in 2025, but they failed again.The DM had asked for a review of the matter and sought a report. The report was submitted to the DM on Tuesday after which the DM removed all the three employees from the post of junior clerk and transferred them to the Class 4 category. Their salary increments were also put on hold.The DM said, “Typing work is extremely important in the collectorate. It is a fundamental skill required for file notings and preparation of documents. In such a situation, it was necessary to take action for not meeting the standards.”
