Kanpur: .A fast-food shopkeeper was dragged for about 50 metres on bonnet of a car allegedly driven by the son of a retired sub-inspector in an intoxicated state on April 4 at Sajari in Chakeri. He sustained serious injuries. A video of the incident surfaced later.The shopkeeper’s brother Manish Pandey said the driver first hurled abuses over some dispute and when people protested, he tried to run over those present at the spot. The shopkeeper Dhrumit Pandey and his brother got dragged on the car’s bonnet.Dhrumit’s leg got fractured. Family members alleged that police did not take action. The injured is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.Manish said that on the night of April 4, a youth arrived in a car and kept honking continuously for about 10 minutes. He behaved indecently and when people opposed, he started hurling abuses and threatened saying that his father was a retired cop.Around 9:30pm, when they were closing the shop, the accused turned the car and hit his brother and dragged him to some distance, he said adding that the accused then fled. Manish took his brother to a hospital in a critrical condition.Chakeri police station acting in charge Javed Ahmad said the victim had filed a complaint at Sanigwan Chauki and a case was being registered. He said a raid was conducted at the accused’s house, but the accused was absconding, and a team was deployed for his arrest
