A case has been registered against the owner of the adjoining plot, the contractor and the JCB operator involved in the excavation

Gurgaon: Three houses were evacuated in Sushant Lok-1 on Monday night after a nearly completed five-storey building tilted 2 to 2.5 inches following foundation excavation on an adjoining plot. Police said the excavation was carried out without adequate safety measures, posing a risk to the building and neighbouring structures. The incident took place at plot number 1770 in Block C. A team from Sushant Lok police station reached the spot after receiving information about the tilted structure and evacuated residents of three nearby houses as a precaution. Police feared that if the building collapsed, it could fall on neighbouring houses and endanger residents.Sandeep Singla, the affected property owner and complainant, was constructing the building with a partner. Work had been underway for the past four to five months, and the structure was nearly complete, although internal fittings and finishing work were pending, police said.According to Singla’s complaint, excavation for the foundation of an adjoining plot allegedly caused the building to tilt. Police said the work was carried out without adequate safety measures.“Prompt action by the police helped avert a potential accident and prevent possible loss of life. After assessing the situation, the team ensured that residents of three nearby houses were evacuated as a precautionary measure,” police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said.Police registered a case on Singla’s complaint against the owner of the adjoining plot, the contractor and the JCB operator involved in the excavation. The case was registered at Sushant Lok police station under sections 125(a) (acts endangering human life or personal safety), 290 (negligence in construction, repair or demolition of a building without adequate safety measures), 324(5) (mischief causing loss or damage of Rs 1 lakh or more) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of BNS.Police said the incident underscores the need for adequate safety measures during excavation work, particularly in densely populated residential areas.“We appeal to residents and those involved in construction activities to follow prescribed safety standards and take all necessary precautions during excavation and foundation work,” Turan said. Further investigation is underway.
