Gurgaon: MCG has warned that those found spitting in public places and sticking or throwing gum on roads, footpaths, parks, markets and bus stops will be issued a challan, citing provisions of Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, and sanitation bylaws. The civic agency made the announcement in a public notice issued on Wednesday. MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said while the penalty amount has not been finalised, the amount is likely to be Rs 500. “Further legal action may also be initiated wherever required under the law,” he said.Dahiya also appealed to residents, shopkeepers, sanitation workers and visitors to comply with sanitation rules, use designated dustbins and help keep the city clean.MCG has directed its authorised officers and enforcement staff to monitor violations, and maintain proper records of enforcement action. Citing Section 309(1)(c) of Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, the notice states that action may be taken against the disposal of waste or other objectionable material in public places.Section 310 empowers the commissioner to issue directions for the removal or abatement of nuisances or insanitary conditions, while Section 393 provides for penalties for violations of relevant bylaws. The civic body has also directed people to wrap used chewing gum appropriately and dispose of it in a suitable dustbin rather than throwing or sticking it in public places. Such disposal will be treated as littering, according to the notice. MCG said spitting in public places creates unhygienic conditions, increases the risk of infection and affects the city’s cleanliness.
