Gurgaon: An 18-month-old boy drowned after falling headfirst into a water trough barely half a foot deep while playing near his parents, who were working nearby, in Sadrana village in the Farrukhnagar area Tuesday.The child, Himanshu, belonged to a family from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh. His father, Anshul, was working nearby, putting fodder for the cattle, while his mother was occupied with making dung cakes when the toddler fell into the trough.According to a police officer, the child had only recently learnt to walk and was playing while his parents went about their work. The trough was around a foot high and was half-filled with water.“The child fell headfirst into the trough while playing. At that age, he did not know how to turn himself over or save himself. The parents noticed the child minutes later; however, the child had been unresponsive and was taken to the hospital,” the officer said.The incident came to light after information was received from SGT Hospital, where the child was taken. The officer said he visited the hospital and later returned after completing the necessary formalities.The toddler’s death has left the family devastated.Police said the child’s post-mortem was conducted on Tuesday. No FIR has been registered in connection with the incident so far. “Inquest proceedings had been initiated under 194 BNSS and the body was handed over to the family after the postmortem.”
