T’puram: Three men have been arrested for allegedly trespassing into a house, assaulting a youth and his parents, and hurling caste-based abuses at them at Vilappil.The arrested were identified as Arun, 33, of Puthen Veedu at Mele Thinavila, Pallimukku; Kiran, 33, of Puthen Veedu at Kurishumuttam, Karamkottukonam, and Akhil, 30, of Pezhavila Veedu, Kundamanbhagam.The case was registered on the complaint of Akhil Raj, 24, of Madanpura, Kavinpuram, under Vilappil police station limits.According to police, the incident took place on the night of May 16 when an eight-member gang allegedly barged into the victim’s house and attacked Raj, his father Baburaj and mother Lathika Kumari. The accused are also alleged to have abused the victims by using caste-related slurs during the assault, leading to the invocation of relevant provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police said the attack stemmed from previous enmity between Raj and the accused. Following an investigation, the three accused were traced and taken into custody. Efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the remaining members of the eight-member gang allegedly involved in the incident.The accused were produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is in progress to establish the role of the other accused and the circumstances leading to the attack, police said.
