T’puram: Health minister K Muraleedharan directed officials to expedite completion and commissioning of new multi-storey building at Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), which was inaugurated five months ago but is yet to become operational.He visited the facility on Friday to assess the progress of construction following complaints that the building, inaugurated by previous govt in Feb, was still not ready for public use.During a review meeting with representatives of Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society, the agency executing the project, Muraleedharan instructed that all contractual work be completed and the building handed over to RCC by Sept 30.

He stressed that there should be no unnecessary delays and called for all pending work to be completed within the stipulated deadline.Minister said it was unacceptable that a modern facility built at a cost of several crores remained inaccessible to cancer patients.Muraleedharan also reviewed the progress of remaining works with RCC officials and the construction agency and sought a time-bound plan for completing the project.
