Varanasi: In a join action of Gadwar police and SOG, a thief carrying a cash reward of Rs 25,000 was arrested after an encounter in Ballia district early on Sunday.Ballia ASP (Southern) Kripa Shankar said that the Gadwar police were busy patrolling, when informers alerted them about the presence of a notorious thief, Tengar Nat (35), near Jogapur Shamshan Ghat canal. When the cops raided the place and cordoned off the area, Tengar opened fire at them in a bid to escape. However, in retaliatory action by police, he suffered a bullet injury in the leg and was caught.After recovering a pistol and cartridges from him, police rushed Tengar to hospital. The ASP said that a total of 18 cases were lodged against him at different police stations. During interrogation, he confessed to have committed theft in Gadwar, Sukhpura and Nagra areas in the recent past.
