Gorakhpur: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her father here in Pipraich police station area. The death initially appeared to be an accident but police investigated and found on Sunday that the woman had been murdered by her father for communicating with a man on phone. The accused was arrested and will be produced before court.According to police, the accused had attacked his daughter with a sickle on Mar 13 following an argument at home. During interrogation, he confessed he had warned his daughter several times against speaking to a boy on the phone. When he again saw her talking on phone that day and confronted her, a heated exchange followed.“In anger, I slapped her and when she raised her hand in response, I lost control and attacked her with a sickle,” the accused reportedly told police. He admitted to striking her multiple times on the neck.After the assault, the couple rushed their daughter to a hospital and later to BRD Medical College, where she succumbed to injuries during treatment.The family claimed that the woman had accidentally slipped and fallen on a sickle at home, but the nature of injuries raised suspicion, prompting police to investigate.Chauri Chaura police CO Ratneshwar Singh said the accused confessed to the crime and the weapon used in the attack had been recovered.
