Hyderabad: Telangana high court on Monday issued notices to the Central and state govts in a petition challenging Shamirpet police station of Malkajgiri Commissionerate in the state being ranked as the seventh best and the best police station in the state for the year 2025. The rankings are awarded by the Union home ministry every year based on various performance in parameters.Justice EV Venugopal issued notices before admission while hearing a petition filed by an NGO, Lokahitha Society.The society alleged a series of allegations against the personnel deputed to the police station and that there was no action from the higher-ups on their representations in Feb 2026 to reconsider the station’s ranking.The petitioner alleged corruption, dereliction of duty, selective investigation and abuse of authority at Shamirpet police station. They mentioned an ACB case in April 2025 in which a sub-inspector was allegedly caught accepting Rs 22,000 and was also found to have earlier taken Rs 2 lakh from the same complainant.In the petition, the society also referred to a May 2025 news report alleging illegal collections, forced settlements, demands for money and fuel, and interference in civil disputes.The society further alleged repeated failure by the personnel to register FIRs in land trespass complaints involving landowners from Bommarasipet village, forcing victims to approach the high court.Further, in another case, a petitioner alleged delay in FIR registration, excluding key accused and not following the court directions. Police allegedly omitted the key accused’s name in the chargesheet and ignored evidence.Another incident, mentioned by the petitioner, related to an incident in Nov 2025, when police personnel allegedly accompanied revenue officials and private individuals during an attempted land-grabbing. The petitioner alleged that the victims were coerced to settle for a compromise.
