Hyderabad: Roads and buildings (R&B) minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has said the state govt will construct a double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayatnagar to decongest traffic on the busy NH-65 stretch in the area.Replying to queries in the assembly on Tuesday, the minister said the 5.5-km corridor would be taken up at an estimated cost of 941 crore, benefiting nearly 10–12 lakh residents across 60–70 colonies in the eastern corridor of the city. The project proposes a three-tier structure with service roads at the ground level, highway traffic in the middle, and a Metro rail line on top.The minister said that inadequate crossing facilities and heavy traffic flow currently force commuters to travel over two km extra, leading to congestion and safety concerns. The proposed elevated corridor is aimed at addressing these issues comprehensively while improving road safety and travel time. The project would be jointly funded, with 741 crore from the Centre and 200 crore from the state govt and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL). Proposals have already been submitted to the Centre on March 17, and approvals were expected shortly, after which tenders would be invited, he said. The minister also informed that the 545-crore project to expand the LB Nagar–Malkapur stretch of NH-65 into a six-lane road was nearing completion, with about 80% of the work already finished. In addition, the state has agreed to bear 53.55 crore towards a 1.2-km double-decker flyover between Madinaguda and BHEL, further strengthening the Hyderabad–Mumbai highway corridor.Mannanur–Srisailam Elevated CorridorThe minister said a 52-km elevated corridor from Mannanur to Srisailam was being planned at an estimated cost of 7,600 crore. The project is aimed at improving safety along the ghat road and ensuring faster access to the temple town. The detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared and is in the final stages of approval. The state cabinet has already cleared the proposal, which has now been forwarded to the Centre for final sanction. Once completed, the project is expected to significantly cut travel time and enable pilgrims to undertake a same-day visit to Srisailam, besides enhancing safety in the forest and ghat sections.HAM RoadsThe minister said the govt was improving road infrastructure and said it would transform all roads into BT roads under hybrid annuity model (HAM) in the state at a cost of 20,000 crore.Responding to a question in the assembly on Tuesday, the minister said that under HAM Phase-I, road works covering 6,092 km have been taken up at an estimated cost of 13,006 crore. These works were being executed through 441 projects, grouped into 34 packages. While tenders for 24 packages have already been received and were under scrutiny, the remaining 10 packages were expected to complete the tender process within a week.Stating that the govt was ensuring transparency and efficiency in execution, minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said that a direct debit mechanism has been introduced to facilitate timely payments to contractors, thereby expediting the pace of works. He further said that the govt plans to invest around 20,000 crore to provide BT roads to every village, while strengthening connectivity at mandal, district and state levels. He added that the focus was on developing a model road network with single-lane, double-lane and four-lane roads to meet future traffic demands.“The initiative is expected to substantially improve transport infrastructure and provide seamless connectivity, contributing to economic growth and public convenience across the state,” he added.
