Hyderabad: The results for the elections to the Bar Council of Telangana held on January 30 were declared on Tuesday, with 23 members, including five women, making it to the council. A total of 203 advocates contested the election, which was held after a long gap of nine years.Among the elected members were TPCC Legal Cell Chairman and minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s brother Ponnam Ashok Goud, and captain of the High Court Cricket Association K. Sunil Goud, who was elected for the third time, having previously won in 2011 and 2018.Sunil Goud also served as Vice Chairman in the preceding council. Several members of the previous council were also re-elected, including Hanmanth Reddy, Ananthasen Reddy, Zakir Hussain Javed, MAK Mukheed, Venkat Yadav Chelakani, and Ramarao Gokul.Other members were Mahesh Kumar Akula, Kiran Kumar G, Raghunath Verose, Sahoder Reddy M, Ram Reddy S, Madhusudhan Rao Dhanwada, Anil Kumar G, Srinivasa Rao M, Jagadishwar Rao D and Raghavulu D.The women candidates were Bhanu Chandrika Ch, Sailaja Ch, Pripurna Shanigaram, Sujatha Pasham and Sunitha B. They were elected for the first time to the council under women reservation based on Supreme Court directions.In addition to the 23 elected members, two co-option members will be chosen as per Supreme Court directions. The council also includes a Chairman, a Vice Chairman, and a representative for the Bar Council of India. Ends/
