Hyderabad: BJP floor leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy on Monday launched a sharp attack on the governor’s address in the assembly, describing it as directionless and lacking clarity on the Congress govt’s governance agenda. He said the speech failed to explain how the govt planned to fulfil the promises made to the people of Telangana and instead presented exaggerated claims about its performance. He alleged that the govt had misled the governor and used the address to project an overly optimistic picture of governance, welfare and development. He said people had expected clarity on the implementation of the 420 promises made in the Congress manifesto over the past two years and three months. According to him, the speech did not mention how many promises had been fulfilled, why several remained pending, or when the remaining commitments would be implemented. Describing the address as a “declaration of broken promises”, Alleti said it lacked accountability, vision and a clear development agenda for the state. He said the speech did not offer hope or confidence to farmers, labourers, the elderly, widows, persons with disabilities, women, students, unemployed youth, government employees, retired staff, RTC workers and auto drivers. The BJP MLA also said the speech ignored concerns over the state’s mounting debt and financial stress. He accused the govt of highlighting minor achievements while avoiding key issues such as welfare delivery, irrigation, fee reimbursement arrears, employee dues and job creation. Alleti further alleged that the address focused excessively on the Telangana Rising 2047 Global Summit and promotional terms such as CURE, PURE and RARE instead of addressing pressing public concerns. He said nearly 12 pages of the speech were devoted to the summit while major governance issues remained unaddressed. He also questioned the govt’s claims on farmer loan waivers and support measures, and said no meaningful progress had been made in the irrigation sector. The governor’s speech, he said, was reduced to a constitutional formality and failed to serve as a roadmap for the state’s future.
