Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Monday projected Telangana as a fast-growing economy by achieving a per capita income of ₹4.18 lakh with an ambitious roadmap to become a $3 trillion economy by 2047.Delivering his maiden speech in Telugu, Hindi and English on the opening day of the assembly budget session, the governor highlighted the govt’s development vision centred on industrial expansion, infrastructure growth and urban transformation. Among the key development plans outlined in the speech was the transformation of western Telangana, particularly the Kodangal region represented by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, into a major industrial hub. The governor said Telangana’s economic indicators reflected strong growth and resilience. The state’s gross state domestic product for 2025-26 is projected at ₹17.82 lakh crore with a growth rate of 10.7%. Telangana currently contributes 4.99% to India’s GDP, while per capita income has reached ₹4,18,931.Shukla said the govt had maintained price stability, keeping inflation low at 0.2%. At the national level, he noted that India’s economy continues to demonstrate steady progress, with a growth rate estimated at 8% and inflation at 1.72%. He described Telangana as a state undergoing rapid transformation through long-term planning and development initiatives. “This budget is not just about financial allocations—it is about shaping a stronger, more resilient Telangana,” he stated. The governor said the state has embarked on an ambitious roadmap under the ‘2047 Telangana Rising’ vision, aiming to build a $3trillion economy. The strategy focuses on industrial growth, global investments and large-scale urban development. “Telangana would compete with developed global cities and countries. Taking inspiration from successful models across the globe, Telangana would like to achieve a $3 trillion economy by 2047,” he said. The govt plans to acquire land for large industrial parks near the upcoming radial road-II, alongside the development of the multi-product industrial park in Kodangal. Infrastructure facilities including power and water supply are also being planned. Construction of housing layouts at MPIP Kodangal is progressing and infrastructure work is expected to begin soon. The governor also highlighted several major infrastructure initiatives. A green expressway is proposed from Future City to Bandar port, while Shamshabad is planned to be developed as a bullet train hub. New airports are also proposed in Adilabad and Warangal. Urban development was another focus area. The govt is implementing the CURE model to strengthen city planning and infrastructure as Telangana’s urban population is projected to reach 53.8% by 2031. He recalled that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was recently divided into three corporations and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region into four commissionerates to improve administration. The govt also preserved 1,045 acres of public land through HYDRAA, protecting assets worth ₹60,000 crore. Environmental restoration projects were also highlighted, including the setting up of 45 sewage treatment plants for Musi river. Shukla said that Telangana continues to attract strong global investment interest. Telangana currently ranks seventh in the country with exports worth ₹1.61 lakh crore. He noted that the service sector accounts for 68.6% of the state’s gross value added and continues to drive economic growth. Hyderabad, he said, has emerged as a global technology hub and hosts nearly 20% of the country’s global capability centres. “The resolve of the govt is unshakable. Every policy, every initiative, and every reform introduced is aimed at creating opportunities, empowering people, and driving inclusive growth. The vision is clear, the direction is set, and the momentum is unstoppable,” he said. The governor concluded his address by calling on all sections to work together with commitment and a shared vision to realise Telangana’s long-term development goals.
