Hyderabad: The Telangana govt, on Sunday, passed an amendment to the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, that changes how updates to the voter list from Assembly constituencies are reflected in Gram Panchayat electoral rolls. Such revisions will now only be applicable ‘as far as possible’ up to the date of the election notification, rather than being mandatory as before.The amendment modifies Section 11(1) of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act 2018, which deals with the preparation of voter lists for Gram Panchayat elections.This procedural shift in the preparation of ward-wise electoral rolls was made in line with a suggestion from the Election Commission of India that updated electoral rolls should be published only after the final publication of the annual/regular Special Summary Revision.
