Thiruvananthapuram: A Rs 100-crore semiconductor capability development park, and science and technology experience park is proposed to be established at Technocity (Technopark Phase-IV), with the project aimed at strengthening the state’s transition towards a knowledge, technology and innovation-driven economy.The project, spread across around 10 acres, will be implemented by Extra G Club Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala.The proposed park seeks to bring together semiconductor skill development, science and technology experiences, emerging technologies, research, entrepreneurship, industry collaboration and public engagement under a single ecosystem. The initiative is designed around an experiential learning model where technology can be understood, tested and created rather than merely studied or displayed.Semiconductor capability development will be a key focus of the project. The park is envisaged to have semiconductor process demonstration facilities, electronics laboratories, chip-design learning environments, prototyping facilities, technology demonstration zones and industry-oriented programmes.The park will also feature galleries based on the theme “How Things Work”, enabling visitors to understand and experience the working principles of technologies such as smartphones, electric vehicles, aircraft, robots, satellites, artificial intelligence and semiconductor chips.The long-term plan envisages the phased development of more than 300 technology galleries and over 500 interactive technology experiences. These will cover areas including semiconductors, AI, robotics, electronics, space technology, quantum technology, future mobility, biotechnology, renewable energy, smart cities, communication systems, automation, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies and human-machine interaction.

One of the major attractions will be the World@2050/Future Science experience, which will offer immersive presentations on possible futures, including cities in 2050, human-AI collaboration, future transportation, quantum technology, biotechnology and space exploration.The park is also proposed as a technology ecosystem connecting school students, universities, researchers, startups and industries through a progression from curiosity and learning to experimentation, prototyping, innovation and entrepreneurship.An MoU exchange ceremony in the presence of industries and IT minister P K Kunhalikutty is expected to mark a key milestone in the development of the project.The proposed facilities will be developed in phases, according to the plan.
