T’puram: Valiyathura police on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with the alleged attempt to kill two Dansaf personnel by ramming a car into their motorcycle near Shanghumugham airport on Tuesday evening. The arrested person is Tom Fernandes alias Toms, a resident of Jusa Road, Valiyathura.The injured personnel, Rojin and Vineeth, are attached to the Dansaf team under Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner. They were travelling on a motorcycle while discreetly collecting information about criminal groups operating in the coastal belt when the incident occurred.According to police, the accused followed the personnel after suspecting that they were police officers keeping surveillance on him. The car allegedly rammed their motorcycle from behind near the domestic airport.The personnel stopped the bike and got off after the collision. The accused allegedly reversed the car and rammed them again before fleeing the spot.Rojin suffered a fracture to his leg in the impact and was shifted to a private hospital for treatment. Vineeth also sustained injuries.Police traced the accused along with the car in Valiyathura area. Police said Fernandes has several criminal cases registered against him and is being questioned.Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to ascertain whether anyone else was travelling with Fernandes in the car. Police are also probing whether the attack was specifically aimed at the Dansaf personnel and the circumstances that led to the accused allegedly targeting them.The Dansaf team also had intensified surveillance in the coastal belt following reports of criminal groups operating in the area.
