Thiruvananthapuram: A newly created ‘Operation Sindoor Corner’ is among the major additions to the renovated Air Force Museum at Akkulam in the capital, which was opened to the public on Wednesday. The interactive exhibits put on display are intended to provide visitors with a closer understanding of Indian Air Force’s (IAF) operational capabilities, technological advancements and achievements.The museum has undergone extensive modernisation with the inclusion of new equipment from IAF ’s collection, aimed at making it more engaging and relevant to the younger generation. The revamped facility also features interactive spaces designed to encourage visitors to learn more about the history and operations of IAF.Located at the heart of Akkulam Tourist Village, the museum is a joint initiative of the tourism department and Southern Air Command of IAF. Thiruvananthapuram district tourism promotion council is responsible for maintaining the museum.The initiative originated in 2018 when Southern Air Command conceptualised the museum. The tourism department met the expenditure for developing the basic infrastructure, while IAF provided the exhibits and display materials.The Akkulam museum offers visitors an opportunity to experience the heritage, technological excellence, courage and professionalism associated with the personnel of IAF.A key objective of the museum is to create awareness among young people in Kerala about IAF and its various roles and opportunities. Through its exhibits and interactive installations, the facility seeks to inspire more youngsters to learn about the armed forces and consider a career in the Air Force.
